solid objects: The Snake
a work-in-progress showing and conversation
Venue: Merrill Theater at OtB
solid objects is a multi-year collaborative project between visual artist Victoria Haven and choreographer Heather Kravas. Begun in 2018, the project has evolved into a series of presentations in galleries, theaters, and warehouse spaces; uniting the forces of dance and drawing to push/pull at the edges of existing architectures and illuminate each physical space and audience as its own transitory charged universe.
In solid objects: The Snake, Heather choreographically considers the physical and sensorial possibilities of Vic’s orbital drawings. Asking questions of Vic’s quasi-dimensional drawings: how they could be rendered with a body, between bodies, what a line might endure, or become? Not quite adhering to presentational expectations, the performance hovers between a drawing and a dance, intended as a vessel to experience the temporary.
During a 2-week residency at On the Boards, Brooklyn-based artist, Joey Kipp, joins Kravas and Haven to create and guide “the snake” alongside Seattle-based performers Jordan Macintosh-Hougham, Vladimir Kremenovic, Symone Sanz, and Fox Whitney. On August 12th they will punctuate the residency by inviting a small audience to witness their process-in-progress. A short questions-and-more-questions conversation will follow this viewing.
Upcoming presentations of solid objects include the premiere of solid objects/VOIDS and solid objects/SANDWICH at Walker Art Center, May 2022.
