Please contact us regarding any accessibility questions or concerns you may have. Our office can be reached by email or by calling 206-617-9886 and dialing 1 for the box office and accessibility information. Typically, someone is available by phone Tue - Fri, 12 - 4pm.
Building Access
Our front entrance is located up a concrete hill, and has 11 steps to the main entrance.
Our ADA entrance is located on the Roy Street side of the building; please ring the doorbell by the mailbox for entry.
We currently have one wheelchair available upon request.
Accessible Seating
Mobility device accessible seating is available for both our Merrill Theater and Studio Theater shows. Our front row of chairs are armless, mobile, and can be configured to accommodate a wide variety of options. Seating in the back of the theater is available with notice ahead of the performance.
After hearing from many community members, and in an effort to more closely align with our values around equity and access, we are creating more accessible seating for our 24/25 Season. This is specifically to create risk reduction and access for vulnerable community members through the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Audience members will have access to Subscriptions and General Admission tickets for this dedicated seating section. The COVID mitigation nitty gritty:
Thursday nights will offer COVID Safe(r) Seating, with the back 1/3 of the 300-seat theater blocked off as a mask-required section.
The accessible section has a capacity for only 20 audience members, which allows for more space between seats.
Six of those seats can be purchased as a limited subscription for those wanting to secure their seats. Please contact us at boxoffice@ontheboards.org for subscription pricing.
Artists with shows that have non-traditional seating have agreed to make their dress rehearsals Covid Safe(r) and therefore available for attendance at a discounted rate.
There is a separate, mobility device-accessible entrance that folks will have the option to use so that they don’t have to go through a busy lobby to access their seats.
There will be a bathroom available that is not used by the general public.
We are working to offer Far-UVC in this section. Our goal is to receive grant funding for permanent installation.
The theater already has 2 HVAC systems with MERV 13 filters, but we will be purchasing more portable filters to be placed in front of and throughout the designated section.
We have an in-house Aranet reader and will be sharing data as the season progresses.

Bathrooms
Our lobby floor has two (2) gender neutral, multi-stall bathrooms. Both are accessible for those using mobility devices.
Our Studio Theater floor has two (2) gender neutral; single stall bathrooms; one is accessible for those using mobility devices.
Sensory Considerations
Please know members of our team personally attend each dress rehearsal, typically held on the Wednesday prior to each performance run, to identify content and sensory considerations. Notes on each performance are included in our Know-Before-You-Go emails and in our show programs. Please contact us if you have any questions about content or sensory notes before a performance.
COVID-19 Safety Policies
Last updated 9/21/2023
Our health protocols continue to be informed by King County guidelines. On the Boards does not require proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test to attend the theater. Audience members are encouraged to wear a mask, but masks are not required. We ask that all audience members respect each other’s choices.
If you have tested positive for COVID-19 or have symptoms of COVID-19 — stay home, even if you are fully vaccinated. Please refer to the King County public health guidance to determine when you can safely return to public events. Additional resources for isolation and precautions can be found on the CDC website.
We appreciate your help in protecting the health of our shared space, staff, and artists by staying home when feeling unwell. If you are unable to attend an event, you can receive a full refund for your tickets. On the Boards will continue to align our policy with local public health agencies’ guidance, and this page will be updated as those evolve.
If you have any questions about our COVID safety policies and procedures or would like a better understanding of what to expect when attending a performance this season, please contact us at boxoffice@ontheboards.org.
