Dear Friends,
This year at On the Boards has been the year of YOU. This year we authored a new strategic plan and vision, with the help of 291 of you. You asked us to focus on artists and we heard you.
We supported 146 artists this season. This year we had the epic
San Cha, the legendary Eiko Otake, and the tender Aya Ogawa on our stage. We brought together Bebe Miller with Angie Hauser & Darrell Jones, Maurya Kerr, and Leslie Seiters & Rachael Lincoln for an evening of duets, Fauxnique helped us get over ourselves while Rose Jarboe helped us get into ourselves. We also proudly commissioned new works by Ogemdi Ude and Amy O’Neal, two artists who explored femme power in different ways. NWNW continued to support the development of local artists and new works.
You broke all our records with our MACRODOSE themed annual fundraising gala, 272 of you attended workshops, 5,017 of you made your way to the theater, and 6,286 of you watched OtB TV online. You took us up on pay-what-you-can tickets, true cost tickets, Covid Safe(r) seating, and artist tickets. You drank 2,212 beverages at FUBAR, danced on the stage, took to your feet for standing ovations and clapped a bazillion times.
Thank YOU.
Megan Kiskaddon Executive and Artistic Director
With your generosity we were able to:
Work with 146 artists and crew from around the country and the world (93 of them were local!!) and experience 31 performances together:
4 residencies
2 original commissions
3 premieres
Embark on a Strategic Plan to take On the Boards through its next exciting phase.
This plan was co-authored with the community, 291 people to be exact. Over the course of six months with Andy Fife Consulting, we hosted workshops, interviews, focus groups, and surveys. Of those who participated:
59.39% identified as artists or creative practitioners (majority of respondents)
51.76% also said they attend as audience members and
28.82% as past subscribers and 25.29% as current subscribers.
You can read more about our Strategic Plan here
Continue to champion local artists with our NW New Works Festival, with a record 89 submissions
Offer 1,820 free or reduced cost tickets. Over 900 artists and students got to experience On the Boards without a financial barrier
Artist fees that meet or exceed NPN and W.A.G.E. standards
The fun stuff:
We sent 325 valentines
We laid 84 yards of turf
Used 25 rolls of mylar
Rolled 75 clay balls across the stage
Served 80 Dick’s burgers and 100 glow-in-the-dark jello-o shots at our gala
Now more than ever, we are honored to be a home in Seattle for contemporary performance. The next chapter begins not with answers, but with intention. On the Boards looks forward to shaping it in relationship with the artists and communities who make the work matter.
Thank you, all of you, for your generous contributions!
