A kaleidoscopic ritual of femme power, connection, and cultural resistance rooted in two decades of research in street and contemporary dance forms.
Again, There is No Other: The Remix is a dark and joyful ritual, conjuring an antidote to the fears of the Feminine in patriarchal culture. Through a kaleidoscopic movement structure merging the cypher (the circle), the nightclub, and contemporary performance tropes, six physically multilingual, femme-identified dancers explore touch, support, the imperative of connection, the tensions of identity, and the embrace of difference.
Again, There is No Other: The Remix samples concepts from two decades of O’Neal’s work exploring societal notions of masculine and feminine through the merging of street/Black social dance and contemporary dance forms. This work is the flip side to her last evening-length work, Opposing Forces (premiered at OtB in 2014 and can be viewed on OtB.tv), which explored fears of feminine qualities in our culture through the hypermasculine form of Breaking with five Seattle-based Bboys.
