Faye Driscoll | Thank You For Coming: SPACE

  • On the Boards 100 West Roy Street Seattle, WA, 98119 United States (map)

This performance is postponed

in the interest of safety around COVID-19 and the Omicron variant

  • In response to the recent wave of Omicron variant Covid-19 cases in Seattle, On the Boards has decided to postpone our planned presentation of Faye Driscoll’s Thank You For Coming: Space.

We have been planning to present this piece since January 2020, so this difficult decision to postpone was not made lightly and only after careful consideration and a shared desire for the safety and care for our audiences on the part of both our team and the artist.

Faye’s piece is designed to create an intimate communal space for the artist and audience; it’s a moving requiem for the human body and human interconnection built through shared physical touch and emotional vulnerability. Driscoll considers theater one of the last secular social spaces, where the vulnerability and complexity of human interconnection is made palpable.  When we programmed this work, we thought the conditions would be right for us to present this work safely. But unfortunately, it has become obvious that this will not be possible by January 20.

On the Boards is still strongly committed to supporting Faye Driscoll, and to presenting Thank You For Coming: Space in Seattle as soon as possible. While we are working as quickly as we can to determine when that will be, we do not yet have the new dates confirmed.

You may either request a refund now or continue to hold your tickets for the future dates. If we are able to reschedule Thank You For Coming: Space before June 2022, your tickets will automatically be exchanged for the new dates and we’ll send you updated tickets/scannable PDFs. If Faye Driscoll is unable to perform the work in Seattle within the next few months, we will notify you of the proposed future dates and give you options for exchanges or refunds.

We thank everyone for your patience and cooperation as we continue to navigate these complicated times. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Let’s all do our part in keeping our community safe & healthy by practicing social distancing, mask wearing, and getting vaccinations and boosters. Stay up to date for info on vaccination/booster sites via Public Health - Seattle & King County

Faye Driscoll’s Thank You For Coming: Space is the final performance in her celebrated Thank You For Coming series—which includes Attendance and Play. The trilogy summons the unnamed forces that surge between the viewer and the viewer in order to create a communal realm where our experiences are heightened and questioned. Driscoll considers theater one of the last secular social spaces, where the vulnerability and complexity of human interconnection is made palpable.

Space unfolds within an intimate installation, wired for sound and upheld by pulleys, ropes, and the weight of others, where Driscoll appears alone with the audience. Through an alchemy of body, object, voice, and live sound, she builds a moving requiem for the human body and conjures a world that is, like ourselves, alive and forever changeable. Space invites us to collectively confront life’s final flourishing, and tethers us to our potential for both the grotesque and the sublime.

Commissioned by Peak Performances as part of the Performing Arts Residency Lab (PeARL) at Montclair State University, New Jersey; and co-commissioned by the Walker Art Center with funds provided by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the William and Nadine McGuire Commissioning Fund; and Wexner Center for the Arts at The Ohio State University through the Wexner Center Residency Award Program.

The work was made possible with generous support from the Doris Duke Performing Artist Awards Program and the Jerome Foundation, and developed with residency support from Camargo Foundation, the Pillow Lab at Jacob’s Pillow and the Rauschenberg Foundation.

Thank You For Coming: Space is a project of Creative Capital.

Thank You For Coming: Attendance (2014), the first work in the trilogy, is featured on OntheBoards.tv
