Venue: On the Boards, Merrill Theater
Architectural drag. House-flipping dance. A shapeshifting crew transforms the space. Join us this weekend in the Mainstage Showcase of NW New Works (June 17-18) for The Renovation by Fox Whitney/Gender Tender — a queering of the past and future of On the Boards as well as the developing landscape of Seattle.
Fox Whitney creates performances that live in the territory where dance, acting, sound and visual art connect/disconnect. Fox makes things that grow from approaching binary systems as ridiculous and generate experiences rooted in shifting perspectives inspired by their non-binary gender and queer blackness. Gender Tender is the name of their performance project.
They have shown work in Seattle at Velocity Dance Center, On the Boards, Washington Ensemble Theater, the Seattle International Dance Festival, Yellow Fish Epic Durational Performance Festival and Gay City Arts, in Portland, Oregon at Performance Works Northwest | Linda Austin Dance and in Minneapolis at events curated by HIJACK, 20% Theatre Co., The Body Cartography Project and 9x22 Dance Lab. Fox has danced and collaborated with Vanessa DeWolf, Aniccha Arts, Paris Hurley, kt shores and Maureen Whiting Dance Co. and has exhibited their visual art and screened their short films nationally.
As GT's choreographer, Fox has developed methods for movement and sound rooted in their queer and multiracial point of view. The Renovation features these techniques featuring Fox as the REALTOR, lead GT performer Will Courtney as the CONTRACTOR and GT All-Stars Christine Abdale, Hendri Walujo, Sara Ann Davidson, Kathryn Hightower and Eli Steffen as the shapeshifting Renovation crew.
