Dear community members,
Nearly three years ago, the Behnke Center for Contemporary Performance – our beloved theatre space and the artistic home of so many – went dark. The months that followed were deeply challenging to all of us. Those very same challenges make the joy of returning to the theatre much more meaningful.
This year, we welcomed audiences and artists back into the theater for our first full season of programming since the pandemic began. The 2022-23 season has been a powerful one so far, with daring, relevant, and inspiring programming that reminds us of the power of shared experiences— none of which would be possible without your support.
Because our community is critical to this post-pandemic rejuvenation, I am writing to ask for your support.
The role of the performing arts is as essential now as it has ever been – we bring people together to imagine what’s possible in the world around us. Artists need space to create, permission to take risks, and audiences to bear witness. We need artists to help us view our world from a unique perspective, imagine what’s possible, and invigorate our sense of connection to one another and humanity. On the Boards plays a crucial role in supporting audacious artists and fostering this creative communion with Pacific Northwest audiences.
As we approach the midway point of our first full season since the pandemic began, we have already seen vibrant examples of art that can only exist in shared spaces. zoe | juniper’s imaginative choreography in The Other Shore: Always Now danced around, and quite literally on top of, audience members. We're looking forward to the remainder of our season featuring which includes provocative works from Faye Driscoll, Kidd Pivot, and Ayaka Nakama, to name a few.
Your support matters. Your donation allows us to continue furthering our mission to support artists, nurture our community, and continue the legacy of vibrant performing arts in the PNW. As a donor and audience member you are critical to the art OtB brings to life and the artists we support. You can donate by following the link below.
Thank you so much, and we’ll see you in the theater!
Warmly,
John Hoedemaker
Board President
